CIVIL LITIGATION
OUR PRACTICE. Grassi & Toering, PLC handles a
wide variety of civil cases, including:
• Business Litigation. Our business litigation
practice emphasizes The Big 3: breach of contract, breach of
fiduciary duty, and business breakups.
• Family Law (limited circumstances only).
• Insurance Disputes, including coverage issues
and subrogation matters.
• Personal Injury, including automobile
accidents.
• Probate.
• Product Liability.
• Real Estate/Construction.
• Will and Trust Contests.
We are available to try cases throughout Michigan - in state
court, federal court, and arbitration. Working with local counsel, we
can also litigate cases throughout the country.
OUR PHILOSPHY. Aggressive. Cost-effective.
Client-oriented. These summarize our approach to litigation. We
attempt to learn our clients' objectives early in the case, and work
closely with our clients to meet those goals. We are a small firm;
each client is important to us.
As our client, you will always work with a partner with 20-years
plus experience. We use paralegals when appropriate. Where
appropriate, we will be pleased to discuss different billing
arrangements - hourly, contingent fee, or a combination of both (or
any other creative arrangement). Remember: We work for you, not vice
versa.
OUR CLIENTS. We represent individuals, small
businesses, families, and publicly-traded companies.
OUR ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION PRACTICE. We also
offer alternate dispute resolution services for other parties who
want a cost-effective way to settle a dispute. Sebastian Grassi
handles mediation and arbitration of will and trust disputes; Doug
Toering is available to arbitrate disputes involving automotive
companies or suppliers.
OUR ATTORNEYS. Doug Toering, who has served as
in-house counsel for General Motors Corporation, is our primary
litigation attorney. At GM, Doug managed nationwide product liability
litigation - everything from minor property damage to catastrophic
personal injury. Later, as a partner in the national litigation firm
of Bowman and Brooke, Doug represented large automotive companies,
both foreign and domestic. That combat training serves our clients
well.
For will and trust disputes, we combine Doug's litigation skills
with Sebastian's in-depth knowledge of trusts and estates. The author
of four books and over 105 articles, Sebastian is a Fellow of the
American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has also served as a member of the Michigan Probate Council, which advises the Michigan legislature on changes in Michigan's probate and trust law.
